  • Reoccuring Xanga Themes

You know, Xanga always goes through phases. Every once in a while it’s the Asian girls want to look like White girls thing. It’s always the curvy/fat vs. skinny/anorexic theme. And right now, what I see, is the tipping thing.

Yep the tipping thing. It annoys the shit out of me that people expect to get tipped. I leave a general comment about how I don’t understand service workers’ entitlement to their tips, and that from what I know tipping doesn’t exist much elsewhere. All of Asia doesn’t tip. Australia doesn’t tip. And anywhere that does tip, it’s not expected and as generous of an amount as the United States. Well anyway, this bitch responds to my comment saying, “how so very ignorant of you.” Really? How is that even ignorant? From what I understand, tips are a special thank you. That’s why you get to denote how much tip you offer people. You get to decide how much they deserve.

I don’t work in the service industry because I hate people, but this is my general understanding of it. Food service workers tend to get really low hourly wages, but it’s not called minimum wage for nothing. You are supposed to be compensated for whatever you are short of minimum wage. I tip averagely (15%) because most service is average. If you do a good job, I’ll bump it up. If you don’t, don’t expect much in your pocket. I tip my hairdresser only if they listen well to what I want done with my hair and they perform.

That’s the thing about America. People expect much more than they deserve and get this sense of entitlement to everything. It’s so annoying. I wish I could move back to Shanghai.

  • preach on sista

  • ha ha… I work in a take out place so if i get tip at all, I’m ecstatic. But you’re right though… if you didn’t get a good tip, you probably didn’t do a good job.

  • Hmm.. makes sense!

  • i completely agree!

  • How else is everyone supposed to have an iPhone or buy a house they can’t afford? It’s prostitution I say!

  • What I hate most is in places where 15-18% gratuity is already included in the bill and there’s still a place for you to leave an extra tip and sign, and the server bitches about not being tipped extra. I guess depending on the base hourly wage without the tips, some people might need high tips, but it’s their responsibility to find a job to make that money! I think when a server is unhappy, they either need to get a new job or talk to the manager who is actually in charge of making sure employees make enough. The customer just has an obligation to tip by fundamental standards…not to make sure everyone makes their 25%

  • i know some people who work in restaurants and i was told their tips make their jobs at $11/hr avg if people tip them 15% gratitude. That’s no minimum wage…they’re just greedy if they get upset.

  • I am with you, though it seems that American’s as a whole have gotten a huge sense of entitlement, not the the people working in the food service industry.

  • -21% FOR EVERYONE!

  • Not gonna lie, us server can get spoiled sometimes…

  • i’m of the impression that everyone should just tip generously.  those extra dollars mean much more to those in the service industry than it does to the patrons.  if it doesn’t, then that person should consider eating at home.  no tips required at home.  :)

  • oohh girl u feisty. i like

  • “I don’t work in the service industry because I hate people” I wish more people were honest like you. srsly. also me 2 woot

  • I tip bartenders because that is what my sister did for years to put food on the table for her kids.  I like to use my tips to say something. I’ll tip up to 40% if someone really took care of me.  I’ve also tipped something like… $.33 to the terrible waitress I had one night.  Apparently she’d also tipped $.33 to a server at the place she worked.  It’s bad joojoo.
